MEITAL

MEITAL - The Israel Center for Learning Technologies is an IUCC sub-unit. Its goal is to assist Israel’s institutions of higher education - universities and academic colleges - in promoting the assimilation of new learning technologies.

MEITAL carries out broad-ranging, intensive activities in technological and pedagogical issues, as well as activities involving content, legal aspects, support, guidance, research and more. These activities have led to a significant expansion in the use of e-learning courses in the higher education system, the formation of inter-university groups of experts, the determination of proper work and decision-making procedures relating to the expansion of the e-learning system, the establishment of efficient information exchange channels, the promotion of projects of system-wide importance and more. In other words, MEITAL has established itself as the central, leading body in Israel in the area of e-learning.

 

 

MEITAL's activities

 

MEITAL operates on the following main three levels: 

 

A.  Assistance in pedagogical and operational spheres

  • Operation of a central informational website on e-learning in higher education, including the management of discussion groups in pedagogic and operational areas.
  • Organization of an annual conference on learning technologies.
  • Organization of courses for support centers and for the academic staff at the universities and academic colleges, on various topics involving the e-learning project.
  • Initiating contact with academic bodies that are supported by the Planning and Budgeting Committee, which are not yet active in this area - especially the academic colleges - to create awareness and provide consulting services and guidance.

 

B. Technical services

  • Providing hosting services for small academic institutions and newly established institutions that are interested in experiencing learning technologies on a small scale.
  • Courses for the support center's technical staffs.
  • Evaluation of new or alternative learning technologies and reporting to institutions of higher education. 

 

C. Coordination

  • Provision of centralized ordering of services - for the purchase of software and hardware, for supporting activity and technical services.
  • Coordination and integration of the activities of the higher education system in this field with activities conductes in other sectors, such as the industrial sector, the education system and the healthcare system.
  • Representation of the higher education system vis-a-vis external and internal bodies, corporate entities and public organizations.
  • Coordination of investments in infrastructure.
