Inter-University Cloud Forum April 2018

The Inter-University Cloud Forum held its second meeting on Wednesday April 25, 2018 in IUCC’s offices in Tel Aviv. Representatives from seven universities took part in the lively discussions on the new IUCC Blog and Wiki resources on trends in cloud computing, news from AWS, and an overview of the findings from the usage survey conducted by IUCC in the first quarter of the year.

The survey results indicated that in most of the cases, environments in the cloud are being deployed and maintained by the University IT department or by the faculty IT personnel and that most of the IaaS environments in the cloud are deployed manually. Today very few of the universities use advanced technologies, such as containers and Serverless, or managed-services, such as database, authentication, DNS.

The session spotlight was an exciting pilot from Ben-Gurion University that helped save significant time and resources in an SQL instruction environments. Alon Goldin reported that he hope to develop this pilot into a reusable ““SQL as a Service” module for others to use.

Tzoori Tamam, Solution architect from AWS, gave a presentation about highlights from AWS re:Invent 2017 conference.
